Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has officially announced Yakuza Kiwami 3, a full remake of the 2009 classic Yakuza 3, during its latest RGG Summit 2025 presentation.The reveal didn’t shock fans. A remake listing had leaked last week, and many expected the confirmation at the Summit.

Built in the Dragon Engine

Yakuza Kiwami 3 is not a remaster but a full remake. RGG Studio is rebuilding the game in the Dragon Engine, first used in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Players can expect sharper visuals, smoother combat, refined exploration, and new cutscenes that expand the story.

Return of Kazuma Kiryu

The remake once again follows Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, as he tries to leave the yakuza life behind while caring for the Morning Glory Orphanage. The story begins in Kamurocho, inspired by Tokyo’s Kabukicho, before shifting to Ryukyu, modeled on Okinawa’s capital Naha. The contrast between neon-lit Kamurocho and sunny Ryukyu was a highlight in the original, and it should shine even brighter here.

Voice Acting and Story Enhancements

The remake will include Japanese and English voice acting, opening the game to a wider audience. New cutscenes will flesh out key moments and give Kiryu’s journey more depth.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 is set to launch on 12 February 2026. Sega confirmed the game will release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This wide release ensures both long-time fans and new players can experience the remake across all major platforms.
