The Ishikawa Prefectural Government announced that the world’s first Pokémon-themed airport is set to open later this year. On July 7, Noto Satoyama Airport will reopen under its new name, “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport,” making it a one-of-a-kind destination for travelers and Pokémon fans alike.
The Pokémon takeover will not be a short-term event. The collaboration is set to run until September 2029 and is part of the ongoing Pokémon With You Charity campaign, a program focused on providing community support across Japan.

The idea for the Pokémon-themed airport was first proposed in April 2024 as part of a wider push to help bring life back to the Noto Peninsula. The region was hit hard by a major earthquake on New Year’s Day 2024, and local officials have been working on various ways to support recovery and draw visitors back to the area.

The airport itself will feature 111 Pokémon characters, along with exclusive merchandise that visitors can pick up during their time there. The airport is not the only project tied to the region’s recovery. Pokémon-themed manhole covers have also been introduced in the area, and a Pokémon hot spring footbath has opened at Wakura Onsen, giving locals and tourists even more reasons to explore the Noto Peninsula.

Together, these projects signal a broader effort to use the beloved franchise as a way to bring attention and activity back to a region still finding its footing after the 2024 disaster.
