Ubisoft has canceled six games in development, including the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, as part of a major company restructuring. The decision follows a two-month review of all projects currently in the works. The company is also pushing back seven other games to later release dates.
Ubisoft says it’s changing direction to focus on high-quality open-world adventure games and live service titles. The six canceled games didn’t meet the company’s new quality standards, according to their statement. Besides the Prince of Persia remake, Ubisoft stopped work on four other unannounced games – three brand-new game franchises and one mobile game. The company hasn’t revealed what the sixth canceled game is.

The seven delayed games include an unnamed title that was supposed to come out by March 2026, now pushed to sometime before March 2027. Many industry watchers believe this game is a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, especially after a rating appeared online last month for something called “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.”
The Prince of Persia development team posted a message directly to fans explaining why they canceled the remake. They said the game showed promise but couldn’t reach the quality level fans deserve. Continuing development would have taken more time and money than the company could commit to. The team didn’t want to release something that didn’t live up to the original game’s legacy.

The statement stressed that Prince of Persia remains important to Ubisoft and that canceling this remake doesn’t mean they’re abandoning the series. While Ubisoft canceled three new game franchises, the company still has four other new franchises in development, including March of Giants, which they recently acquired.
