Tencent has made major changes to Light of Motiram’s Steam page after Sony filed a lawsuit over similarities to Horizon.

When Polaris Quest revealed Light of Motiram in November 2024, players quickly spotted its resemblance to Guerrilla’s Horizon series. The comparisons were blunt — a red-haired protagonist, mechanical animal-like creatures, and a tribal post-apocalyptic setting. Many fans and media outlets called it a straight-up knock-off.
Last month, Sony escalated the situation by filing a lawsuit in a California federal court. The company accused Tencent of creating what it called a “slavish clone” of Horizon. According to Sony, the game’s art style, story beats, gameplay elements, and even marketing looked so similar that some players believed it was a new Horizon title.
A Quiet but Noticeable Update
Earlier today, Tencent quietly updated Light of Motiram’s Steam store page. The overhaul replaced multiple screenshots, swapped the main promotional image, rewrote the game description, and added a release window. Several videos also disappeared from the page in recent days, according to SteamDB.

The original store description leaned heavily into themes seen in Horizon:
“In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals.”
The new text removes direct references to “colossal machines” or “Mechanimals,” opting for a more generic survival tone:
“Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face off against formidable bosses, every step is fraught with danger and requires courage. Only by overcoming the challenges of survival can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land.”
From Aloy Lookalike to Animal Companions
The biggest visual change comes in the key art. The old artwork featured the red-haired protagonist whose design drew comparisons to Horizon’s Aloy. The updated version shifts the focus to two creatures — a penguin-like animal and a dog-like companion — removing the human character entirely.

The updated screenshots also replace sweeping sci-fi tribal landscapes and robotic wildlife with more neutral open-world survival imagery.
These updates suggest Tencent is moving Light of Motiram away from its Horizon-like presentation, at least in its public marketing. However, the lawsuit remains active, and Tencent has not issued a public statement.
For the first time, Light of Motiram now has a release window: Q4 2027. This change replaces the long-standing “To Be Announced” tag on the Steam page.
