Forget retirement, these senior citizens are busy breaking throws and landing launchers in Tekken 8. Care Esports in Japan has just wrapped up their 2025 tournament, where competitors from as young as 60 to as seasoned as 93 years old stepped into the ring to see who truly deserves the title of King of the Iron Fist. Held annually with a new title each year, this season’s featured game was none other than Tekken 8 — and the matches were no joke.
A Real Tournament Atmosphere

This wasn’t your average casual match-up. With full player profiles, main character picks, and live commentary, the Care Esports League delivered the full esports experience for its senior competitors. Players were decked out with proper setups, and yes — there were even trophies handed out post-finals.
As it turns out, Tekken’s surprisingly intuitive control scheme (each button linked to a limb) made it the perfect entry point for gamers who may have never picked up a controller in their lives.
Battle of the Elders — And the Crowd Loved It

While Tekken is famously one of the hardest fighting games to master (with move lists that put most other fighters to shame), these players pulled off real combos, punished mistakes, and gave spectators plenty to cheer for.
By the time the finals rolled around, two names had emerged: Sadayuki, a King player showing off pro-level mechanics like throw breaks and air grab conversions, and Yoshie, who used Panda to sweep the floor — literally — with smart low attacks and calculated launchers.
In a heated final bout, Yoshie, a 73-year-old pulled off a reverse sweep comeback in the final round to take the trophy.
Age Is Just a Number in the FGC
This showcase goes beyond just novelty. It’s a powerful reminder that gaming truly has no age limit. Whether you’re grinding ranked in your 20s or trying your first fighter in your 80s, the joy of competition and learning something new is universal.
Just like the recent story in the U.S. of a senior who beat Dark Souls as his first-ever video game and went straight into Elden Ring, these Tekken champs are showing the world that age is just a stat.
