Taking a Look Back at Season 2 of Overwatch 2

As season 2 of Overwatch 2 is nearing its end, we take a look back at the season and see what’s in store for us in Season 3 and onwards from the blog post by the Overwatch team.

Season 2 saw the introduction of Overwatch 2’s latest hero – Ramattra. His initial release was met with a lot of positive feedback in terms of fun factor, but wasn’t viable in enough situations. The team decided to increase his power while in Nemesis form by increasing its armour and speed. Additionally, cooldown tweaks were also made to Ramattra’s Void Barrier to create more uptime with his abilities.

In Season 3, the team plans on changing the timer on Ramattra’s ultimate – Annihilation, so that it will eliminate many of the extreme uses and enable more counterplay while keeping his ultimate strong and impactful.

The new Battle for Olympus mode was debuted during Season 2. Based on player feedbacks, the team are planning to make a team deathmatch version as well as enabling the mode in custom games. Winter Wonderland and the Lunar New Year events returned for the first time in Overwatch 2, but its hype fell short due to the lack of new rewards.

The team will be working to offer new rewards for all players more consistently and Season 3 will offer players an all-new legendary skin. And starting in Season 4, the team’s goal is to offer new items as rewards for most of the big events in Overwatch 2.

Season 2 also brought changes to the Ranked matchmaking as well as reintroducing credits and updates to the Hero gallery. More information on the changes can be read on the official blog post here.

Moving forward, the Overwatch team will be adding or improving systems that better celebrate players match to match as well as across seasons. One of the angles the team is exploring is the “On Fire” system which highlights a player when having an impressive performance within a match.

And while still in the early stages, the team have begun design work on a hero-based progression system that would showcase the energy players put into playing each hero and mastering their different capabilities.
