Over the last weekend, we got to experience an absolutely fun time at the ultimate tabletop gaming convention, TableCon Quest 2024. For those who did not know, TableCon Quest 2024 happened at the Singapore Suntec Convention Centre from June 22 to June 23, 2024 – bringing tabletop fun to attendees.

While the event is smaller compared to other bigger and grander conventions, it was one full of joy and interesting things to discover. Without further ado, here is a summary of our lovely experience in this wonderful event filled with tabletop greatness.

Putting your first step into the convention, you will be greeted by a huge stage in front of the entrance, where all sorts of events happen such as developers presenting and giving talks about their games. This includes Cardfight!! Vanguard and Weiß Schwarz Designer Satoshi Nakamura and Tsuburaya Productions’ Eiji Shishido, General Producer of the Ultraman Card Game, shared their thoughts on games through a Q&A session with participants. 

Not only that, but there were also live demonstrations of board games on stage, as well as interactive events with participants such as card game showcases and lucky draw – my favorite, I mean who doesn’t like free stuff? The crowd was highly enthusiastic throughout.

It’s Time to Duel! 

For card game fans, there is a lot of excitement here because there are cards for sale, and you could also check out the latest release such as the Detective Conan Card Game. This event also featured the first demo of the Ultraman Card Game in Singapore! Even though the card game area can be quite uneasy to get through, you won’t take much time to get to your destination thanks to the smaller venue.

The staff at the event are all extremely friendly and would do their best to guide you on how to play certain games. Sure, the Detective Conan Card game is only available in Japanese at the moment, but the staff guided us well. The rules are easy to catch up and there is so much fun in solving the case and claiming victory.

Board Games Galore

Arguably my favorite parts of the event are the indie board games where there are so many cool fresh ideas to explore. We tried a lot of them, but some of my favorites are Spirit War, Kabuki Tricks, and Legions of Kadmon. The developers are all creative and explained the rules very well to us – we also got to meet different people through playing these games.

Of course, indie games aside, there are many notable tabletop games to enjoy at the event as well, such as Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). There are multiple different kinds of board game demonstrations happening in the demo areas featuring some cool figures as well. A lot of games can take 3 to 4 hours to complete, but despite the duration, you can see players having a blast with experienced Dungeon Master (DM) narrating and guiding the game with full vigor. Some of the staff were even in costumes while conducting their D&D sessions, immersing players into their world.

There was no need to worry about not bringing board games because there were games for rent, or even for purchase as well. If you are into the Warhammer series or painting your miniatures, there are painting sessions where you could paint the cat mascot of TableCon Quest 2024. The tables were always full of people, immersing in their paintings and showcasing their masterpieces.

There’s More! 

Surprisingly, this event not only featured tabletop games, but you can also find indie games by inspired developers being showcased. There were around 8 to 10 indie game demos there, and they were all creative and fun in their ways. Our favorite is The Curse of Hideo, a Souls-like made by 3 students using Unreal Engine. That aside, there was also the Beyblade battle section where players duke it out.

More importantly, the F&B area sells snacks and beverages, so you don’t have to leave the venue even when you are feeling peckish.

Tabletop is Fun! 

With an entrance fee of SGD 12 for a day, this is one worthy event to event to because tabletop gaming is genuinely fun. You could try out so many different board games, card games, and even indie titles here. The event space may be small, but it never felt too crowded because of how well-organized it is.
