Following the Xbox Games Showcase, the Starfield Direct began with Game Director, Todd Howard hosting the event and speaking about how Starfield differed from other games in Bethesda’s catalog. Instead of exploring one world, you’ll be exploring many, making for their biggest game yet.

While certain details about Starfield have already been released, including its scheduled release date, Starfield Direct contains additional interesting information which we will go through in this article. So without further ado let’s get to it.

Starfield promises to feature open exploration of its many areas, such as the mountains in the surrounding area as well as a moon featured in the backdrop of an area that players could also explore should they desire.

The galaxy will be simulated realistically through the use of modern-day technology and will help make the world of Starfield more immersive. An all-new animation system will also be featured in Starfield that players can view through both first person and third person.

The direct also showcased the many customization options that would be available in Starfield, including different Spacesuits and different weapons that players could equip. The game will also allow you to take AI companions on your adventures as well as build up a crew to man your spaceship.

The game’s exploration was also shown in great detail, with the player entering the navigation board that highlights the expansive world of Starfield which shows the many planets within the current solar system the player was in. Beyond this system also lies other systems within the galaxy which could also be explored by the player through the ship’s Grav drive.

Character Creation

Starfield will also feature an overhauled character generation system which promises highly detailed and diverse characters. The character creator was also shown during Starfield Direct which has a wide range of presets for the many individual parts such as Body, Face, and Background.

Background gives your character a bit of backstory to help shape the narrative of Starfield and may prove useful when interacting with the many characters in the game. There is also a trait mechanic which comes with its own advantages and disadvantages that are optional.

Spaceships

The spaceships in Starfield are also in abundance as there are many types to choose from which players can buy at the Spaceport. Different ships will also serve different functions with bigger ships being more capable of running smuggling runs and smaller ships being more suited for bounty hunter missions.

Individual parts of the spaceships can also be fully customized through the shipbuilder mode which includes the systems and the layout of the spaceship. Different types of parts will also add different bonuses such as adding a habitat module would allow you to have more room for crew members.

Companions

Starfield will also have companions that carry certain skills that help with the overall performance of your spaceship and outpost as well as having unique quest lines with a romance feature being made available as well.

Searching for crew members for your spaceship or outposts can be found through the spaceport and exploration. Both companions and crew members can assist you in your exploration as well.

Space Combat

During Starfield Direct, space combat was also showcased and was described to be a complex dance between the players piloting skills and power allocation system which has you redirecting power to different ship functions to suit the different situations similar to that of Star Wars Squadrons.

Aside from destroying the ships completely, players will also be given the option to board enemy ships for a more hands-on approach to claim the ship as their own and add it to their spaceship collection.

An item included in Starfield’s Collectors Edition was also revealed, which is a Starfield-themed Chronomark Watch. Xbox players will also get to enjoy a Starfield-themed controller and headset.
