Stig Asmussen, the director of the Star Wars Jedi Series and God of War III has announced the establishment of a new studio named Giant Skull.

Giant Skull will be dedicated to building ‘gameplay-driven, story-immersed action-adventure games set in captivating worlds.’

“The Giant Skull studio culture is founded on creativity and curiosity,” said Giant Skull CEO Stig Asmussen. “We have assembled a talented team renowned for immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal, and our goal is to craft a rich universe that players will want to lose themselves in for years to come.”

An AAA single-player focused action adventure game built in Unreal Engine 5 is currently being developed by the studio, but no news on the actual game has been announced.

The team at Giant Skull currently consists of around 30 people, with many veterans in the gaming industry being included in its roster.

Some notable mentions include Jon Carr, the technical director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, an art director who worked on Fortnite, Valorant, League of Legends, and God of War. Lauren McLemore, a lead producer on Fortnite. Jeff Magers, the design director for the Star Wars Jedi games. And Brian Campbell, a former animation director at Epic Games.

Interestingly, Giant Skull headquarters will be based in Los Angeles, but will also hire employees remotely from all around the world, which may provide a platform for those who have been hit by the recent lay offs.

The studio has also opened their official website, where people who are interested in the studio can find out more about it, but only by typing the correct command prompts in the website.

In a time where layoffs are continously hitting big tech company such as Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Sony Interactive Entertainment, having a studio like Giant Skull where the developers are in charge may be a needed change in the current environment.
