Star Wars anime to be animated by Studio Trigger, Production I.G and others

A series of animated Star Wars short films are currently being worked on by Japanese anime studios such as Studio Trigger and Production I.G. Production I.G is noteworthy for their work on Ghost In The Shell and Haikyu!! while Studio Trigger is famous for Kill La Kill and Gurren Lagann.

These Star Wars shorts, known as Star Wars: Visions, will stream on Disney Plus on September 22 later this year. Catch the special look video for Star Wars: Visions here:

Besides Production I.G and Studio Trigger, there are also five other anime studios working on Star Wars: Visions. Here are the studios and their respective Star Wars shorts:

• Kamikaze Douga – The Duel
• Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō
• Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody
• Trigger – The Twins
• Trigger – The Elder
• Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride
• Science Saru – Akakiri
• Science Saru – T0-B1
• Production I.G – The Ninth Jedi

According to James Waugh, executive producer of Star Wars: Visions:

“We really wanted to give these creators a wide creative berth to explore all the imaginative potential of the Star Wars galaxy through the unique lens of anime. We realized we wanted these to be as authentic as possible to the studios and creators who are making them, made through their unique process, in a medium they’re such experts at. So the idea was, this is their vision riffing off all the elements of the Star Wars galaxy that inspired them — hopefully to make a really incredible anthology series, unlike anything we’ve seen before in the Star Wars galaxy.”
