Square Enix has officially announced Octopath Traveler 0, the latest game in the popular RPG series. The game will release worldwide on December 4 for multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
The announcement came through a trailer that was first shown during Nintendo Direct in July. Players can choose between two versions: the standard edition for $49.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition for $59.99.
Octopath Traveler 0 takes place in the world of Orsterra and tells a story about restoration and revenge involving divine rings. The game keeps the series’ signature HD-2D visual style, which mixes old-school pixel art with modern 3D graphics. Players will also find familiar gameplay elements like Path Actions and the Break and Boost battle system that fans know from previous games.

What makes this entry special are several new features. For the first time in the series, players can create their own main character by choosing their appearance, voice, movements, and even their favorite food. The game also introduces town building, letting players rebuild their hometown and invite other characters to live there.
Combat has been expanded too, with battles supporting up to eight party members chosen from over 30 possible allies. The new skill system allows characters to learn action skills and teach them to other party members, giving players more ways to customize their team.

Players can still use Path Actions to interact with the world in different ways, whether that’s inviting people to join their town, starting battles, or getting items. According to Square Enix, the game gives players freedom to explore and play however they want.
