One month after launch, Square Enix has removed its restrictions and guidelines on story-related content for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. Players can now freely stream and share images and videos from the game without worrying about takedowns.

The publisher originally put strict rules in place to protect the story experience for new players. Both Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II are narrative-focused RPGs, and Square Enix wanted to prevent spoilers—especially for content appearing after the second staff roll in Dragon Quest II. Series creator Yuji Horii had also teased a surprise ending that the company wanted players to discover on their own.
The remakes include additional post-game content beyond the first final boss of Dragon Quest II. Players can explore new areas like the Cave of Confusion and Cloudsgate Citadel, face a new final boss, and unlock a true ending that connects the trilogy in a more meaningful way. The new finale has been well-received by Dragon Quest fans.

While the restrictions are now lifted, Square Enix is still asking content creators to be “mindful of posting spoilers” so others can enjoy the games unspoiled. However, some responses to the announcement have already noted that spoiler-filled thumbnails and streams are appearing online, so players who haven’t finished yet should stay cautious.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is available now for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
