Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has a new studio, and more details about it have come to light. A website for a company called Unbound Games has been making the rounds online, revealing what Mikami has been up to since leaving Tango Gameworks back in 2023.
The site shows that Unbound Games has actually been around since May 2023, with Mikami serving as representative director. While the website has reportedly been live for at least a year, it only recently gained wider attention.

According to job listings on the site, Unbound is currently developing an original IP, meaning a brand new game with no existing franchise attachedbuilt on Unreal Engine 5, targeting PS5, Xbox, and PC. The studio describes itself as “a fully independent company, developing high-end consumer games, creating original AAA titles.” Down the line, the studio also has plans to work on smaller-scale projects alongside bigger ones.
Right now, Unbound Games has around 50 employees, with a goal to grow that number to about 150. The company’s profile mentions that its staff have worked on notable titles and series including Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Shadow of the Colossus, and Hi-Fi Rush.

One confirmed member is Masato Kimura, a producer known for his work on Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush, and a longtime collaborator of Mikami’s. His credits also include Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and PN.03, among others.
Mikami made his name at Capcom, where he directed the original Resident Evil, its 2002 GameCube remake, and Resident Evil 4 — games that had a major impact on the survival horror genre and action games as a whole. He later founded Tango Gameworks, the studio behind The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush, before departing in 2023. No release window or title has been announced for Unbound’s debut project yet.
