ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X Launching This October

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X will release worldwide on October 16, 2025. Both handhelds feature the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Series processors. Gamers can try them for the first time at Gamescom 2025, where ROG is also showcasing its full lineup of laptops. To add excitement, Grand Theft Auto V actors Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno will appear live at the ROG booth to meet fans.

Ready for Launch

The rollout begins October 16 in major markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and more. Players in Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, and Vietnam will also see launch-day availability. China will receive the Xbox Ally X at launch, while the standard Ally arrives early next year. ROG will later expand to Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Thailand. Pricing and pre-order details will arrive in the coming weeks.

ROG and Xbox co-developed both handhelds to give players true gaming freedom anywhere. The ROG Xbox Ally includes an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor with four Zen 2 cores and eight threads. It also carries eight AMD RDNA 2 GPU cores, 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM, a 512GB M.2 SSD, and a 60Wh battery for extended playtime.

The ROG Xbox Ally X raises the bar with the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor. It offers eight cores, 16 threads, 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, and an integrated NPU. The device features 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, a 1TB M.2 SSD, and an 80Wh battery to support longer sessions.

Optimized for Handheld

Xbox worked with developers to optimize thousands of PC titles for handheld play. Games in the library carry either a “Handheld Optimized” or “Mostly Compatible” tag. Handheld Optimized titles use proper controller inputs, text sizing, resolution, and icons. Mostly Compatible games may need small in-game tweaks for the best results.

To improve startup times, Xbox added advanced shader delivery. By preloading shaders during downloads, games can launch up to ten times faster. This upgrade also helps games run more smoothly and use less battery. More titles will receive shader updates in the future.

The ROG Xbox Ally X also uses its advanced Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip to enable new features arriving in 2026. Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) will upscale lower-resolution games for sharper visuals and smoother framerates. The handheld will also support AI Highlight Reels, which automatically capture gameplay moments for easy sharing.

Visitors to Gamescom 2025 can test both handhelds at the ROG booth, alongside the latest Strix, Zephyrus, and Flow laptops. Playable games include Balatro, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Gears of War: Reloaded, Hogwarts Legacy, Lies of P, and Roblox. Featured demos such as 99 Nights in the Forest, Grow a Garden, and Rivals will also be available.

Meet-and-Greet at the ROG Booth

ROG also reunited Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno for the newest chapter of the ROG Travel campaign film. Luke again stars as the ROG Travel supervisor, while Fonteno joins as a new hire pitching the ROG Xbox Ally as the ultimate gaming getaway. Fans can meet both actors at the booth during Gamescom.

ROG will be located at Hall 8, North Entrance, Koelnmesse, Cologne, Booth #C-010-B-011. The booth will open Thursday, August 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, August 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, August 24 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All times follow Central European Summer Time (CEST).
