Magnus Games Studio has announced the date for their first alpha test of Re:Legend last December and it is now finally live. We are lucky to be able to get our hands on the pre-alpha version, so here is our short review where we will talk about our first impressions on the game!
Here is our gameplay:
For those who are new, Re:Legend is a co-op monster-raising JRPG by Magnus Games, an indie game studio based in Malaysia. You will play as a fallen hero who lost all of your memories and was washed ashore to an island called Vokka Island. The game comes with a ton of interesting features including farming, fishing, crafting and Magnus taming.
Compared to the demo we tried last November, the alpha version has got some improvements as well as being more completed. Just like Harvest Moon, you plant crops and harvest them for earnings. Other than the normal crops that grow on the land, certain types of crops require you to plant them underwater.
The combat system allows you to wield any weapons such as double blades, bow or magic wand to battle. There is no restriction of weapon class so you can freely switch between the weapon anytime you want. Interestingly, during a battle the opponent Magnus doesn’t just release skills for attacks, sometime they would use their skills to protect themselves as well.
Taming Magnus is one of the best things you could do in the game. There are various of them, every single Magnus is tamable but it is not an easy task to do so. They have their food of preferences, so you will need to feed them the food they like until they are available to tame.
Some Magnus can aid you in your adventure. For example, the Draconewt (available in alpha version) helps you to water your crops. Your Magnus will grow differently depending on your care. If you are lucky enough, you could see different types of Magnus fight against each other while you are roaming around too. You can also mount your Magnus to combat through your adventure.
Of course, the game also comes with a social system where you can interact with different NPCs and even develop a romantic relationship with the girl you like. You can send gifts to other NPCs, they would give different reactions according to their preference and what you gave them.
The game comes with beautiful graphics and a great choice of soundtracks. But as the game is at its alpha stage, there are actually some frustrating bugs (eg: item drop that stuck in a terrain) that require improvements. The sensitive hitbox detection requires you to stand at an angle to collect an item too, which is troublesome at most of the times.
In short, Re:Legend is a game that you could look forward to. The Magnus are all adorable, while the combat is more interesting than I expected. There are some spaces for improvement and we hope the game would get better in the official version. If you are interested in Re:Legend, do stay tuned to their official Facebook!
