TVT and Game Source Entertainment have officially launched Ratatan, the spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, on Steam Early Access. The rhythm-based roguelike is priced at $24.99 (around RM117), with a 10% launch discount for early buyers.
Feedback and Development Vision

During Steam Next Fest in June, Ratatan’s demo attracted over 270,000 downloads. The team collected valuable feedback through reviews and surveys, leading to refinements in the Early Access build. These updates include a cleaner UI and a more helpful tutorial, giving new players a smoother introduction. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri emphasized that Early Access is a new beginning rather than a finished product. He also promised to listen closely to community input, ensuring future updates reflect player expectations.
Gameplay and Features

Ratatan builds on Patapon’s rhythm-strategy foundation while modernizing its mechanics. Players step into the role of a conductor, commanding their Ratatan army through button inputs synced to the beat. Timing is crucial, as well-played rhythms unleash skills tied to the instruments each Ratatan wields. The four-beat attack-and-defense gameplay that fans remember remains intact, but movement has been updated for a faster, more dynamic feel.
Beyond single-player, Ratatan also supports online multiplayer for up to four players, powered by TVT’s proprietary Theory Engine. This ensures smooth co-op play across regions. The Early Access version also includes broad language support, such as English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French, German, and more.
Roadmap and Future Updates

At launch, Ratatan features multiple worlds, companion characters, and roguelike randomization for replay value. However, TVT has already revealed a roadmap of content updates. By the end of October, players will see Super Fever Skills and Ratatan upgrades. In December, the game will introduce Dark Ratatan Battles as new scenarios. Looking further ahead, Spring 2026 will bring additional worlds and massive boss fights.
Ratatan aims to grow alongside its community, with developers encouraging players to share feedback through Steam reviews and surveys. With its mix of rhythm, charm, and strategy, the game is shaping up to be a worthy successor to Patapon while offering something fresh for modern audiences.
