MAGES has confirmed that The Quintessential Princesses: Fantasy and Abyss and Magic Academy will receive a demo on September 18, the same day the full game launches in Japan for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

The demo covers the entirety of Chapter 1, letting fans experience story scenes, dungeon exploration, and character raising before committing to the full game. However, save data will not carry over to the retail release.

Trial Version Details

The trial version will be downloadable on launch day. Players can enjoy the full first chapter, which introduces the quintuplets and Fuutarou at the academy. They will explore dungeons, strengthen characters, and immerse themselves in the early stages of the story.

MAGES also allows live streaming and video uploads for the trial version, though only on YouTube and excluding the opening movie. The company stressed that the full release will block gameplay recordings. Full guidelines will appear on the official website once the trial goes live.

Story Synopsis

Set in a kingdom where science and magic coexist, the story follows Uesugi Fuutarou, a struggling student at a magic academy. He accepts a tutoring job that pairs him with the Nakano quintuplets, who despise studying and risk failing out of school. While guiding them, Fuutarou begins uncovering the sisters’ hidden secrets.

Gameplay Systems

Players take control of Fuutarou while customizing the quintuplets’ magic and equipment. Completing quests gradually unlocks new storylines, making exploration and progression both challenging and rewarding. Each adventure blends dungeon-crawling mechanics with visual novel-style storytelling, giving fans strategy and narrative depth.

Limited and Special Editions

MAGES will release several editions alongside the standard version. The limited edition includes a Blu-ray with the opening animation and an exclusive 10-minute original anime, plus a 45-minute visual drama, soundtrack, and a booklet featuring interviews and artwork.

The Special Box edition expands further, offering acrylic stands of the quintuplets, tin badges, a BD jacket, a mini script, and a storyboard collection, all packaged inside a collector’s sleeve case. These bonuses give fans exclusive items to celebrate their favorite characters.

The game launches for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. The standard and digital versions cost 8,690 yen. The limited edition is priced at 14,190 yen, while the premium Special Box edition costs 25,190 yen. A Digital Deluxe Edition, which bundles the soundtrack and a special anime app, will also be available.
