Shanghai-based technology company Play For Dream Technology announced its market entry into the Asia-Pacific region with its marketing headquarters established in Singapore and a launch of the world’s first Android-based spatial computer, Play For Dream MR headset, to commemorate the company’s expansion milestone.

The mixed reality (MR) headset Play For Dream MR features industry-leading specifications, a powerful self-developed algorithm architecture, and an integrated design aesthetic – creating a fusion of digital and real worlds, delivering spatial entertainment through MR gaming, 3D spatial videography, and photography. The technology company looks to provide IMAX’s picture and sound and provide customized spatial sound effects powered by DTS through DTS:X Ultra with a strategic collaboration with IMAX and DTS.

Equipped with 8K Micro-OLED screens and an ultra-light resin Pancake optical solution, Play For Dream MR can deliver 27 million pixels at 3882 PPI, with 45 PPD at the center, and 92% DCI-P3. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform capable of high performance while its camera and sensor array, including 11 high-performance cameras, 7 types of sensors, and 22 infrared LEDs, is said to provide precise and efficient tracking with a VST latency as low as 14ms. Furthermore, it is equipped with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of large storage capacity, combined with LPDDR5X low-power memory technology.

“Play For Dream Technology is committed to reforming how everyone acquires information. By focusing on delivering exceptional experiences, we bring a new dimension of spatial entertainment to users in the Asia Pacific region,” said Huang Feng, Founder and CEO of Play For Dream Technology. “Singapore is one of the most innovative cities in the world and a preferred hub for many cutting-edge technology companies. We hope to embark on our global expansion from here and influence the Asia Pacific region over time. This region has the largest and youngest digital native population in the world, making it a critical starting point for our global strategy as we write a new chapter for our brand.”

“I am thrilled to be here today at the global launch of Play For Dream Technology’s groundbreaking product! We are embarking on a strategic worldwide partnership with our first IMAX partner in the spatial computing and MR field. In anticipation of our future collaboration with Play For Dream Technology, we have been working closely together to prepare iconic experiences, tailored to the industry-leading specifications and features of this new product, and immerse users with classic IMAX documentaries. We look forward to seeing this product arrive on the market soon as the world’s first Android-based spatial computing and MR device certified by IMAX Enhanced,” said Xin Zhou, Vice President, Business Affairs & Operations, IMAX China.

“Play For Dream MR will be featuring DTS:X Ultra, the exclusive audio format used in the IMAX Enhanced program, offering heart-pounding theatrical sound to its users. Additionally, Play For Dream MR will include DTS:X Ultra, a premier audio solution that provides an ultra-realistic immersive 3D listening experience with precise audio cue placement. This truly brings all contents to life, whether it’s games, movies, and music. DTS is collaborating closely with the Play For Dream Technology technical team to ensure optimal calibration and tuning, delivering sound exactly as artists intended. The product delivers a variety of scenarios tailored to different content types, satisfying every user,” Christopher Lang, Vice President and General Manager for Greater China, Xperi said.

Play For Dream MR and Entertainment

As mentioned, the headset is capable of delivering an IMAX-level audiovisual feast through collaboration with IMAX and DTS. When the device’s self-developed theater mode is activated, the screen can expand to over 1000 inches as well as simulate a 7.1-channel experience with a 360° surround sound field.

The company also claims that the headset can offer a “truly immersive” gaming experience, with responsive control feedback and synchronized video and audio – featuring precise eye and hand tracking, along with self-developed 6DoF halo-free controllers. The headset is compatible with MR games, VR games, and 2D large-screen games.

With VST latency as low as 14ms, Play For Dream MR is said to be able to accurately simulate the real world with a 1:1 representation, creating a dynamic, realistic, and low-latency MR gaming experience. Users can enjoy ultra-realistic visuals, immersive surrounding sound, and haptic feedback from the controllers.

In terms of photography, the headset has a dual 32MP ultra-high-definition 3D camera, offering an expansive field of view exceeding 80° and up to 1TB of storage capacity. Supported by EIS stereo 3D video stabilization, the camera offers smooth and reliable recording. Moreover, the Play For Dream MR excels in capturing immersive 3D videos through spatial video and VR180 formats.

What’s more, you can enhance your workflow through multitasking with the device’s multi-screen capabilities – with over five spatial screens. Supported by Xiao Hu, the AI assistant, the device can handle searches, music composition, translation, and precise voice control. The Upcoming AI enhancements will include features enabling the conversion of 2D photographs into 3D models, along with advanced object recognition capabilities.

      Dream OS

Measuring just 33mm thin and 21.4% slimmer than its predecessor, the battery design maximizes space – leading to a battery compartment 20.6% thinner. With a 3:2 weight distribution, the device provides a balanced and pressure-free fit, while the invisible embedded sensors merge functionality with avant-garde aesthetics.

For the operating system, the Play For Dream MR runs the Dream OS, which establishes a foundational architecture that blends spatial computing with AI and features advanced head tracking (6DoF), hand tracking (26DoF), controller tracking (6DoF), and eye tracking technologies, as well as leading capabilities in VSLAM, spatial anchors, 3D reconstruction, and VST for environmental perception and mapping algorithms.

As the world’s first android-based spatial computer, Play For Dream MR is accelerating the development of a more expansive and compatible content ecosystem. The company has already established deep collaborations with nearly 100 content providers (CPs) across various countries and regions worldwide – currently offering a total of over 300 ecosystem applications on its store, the company continues to launch more applications regularly. By collaborating with Android developers, they aim to unlock limitless creativity possibilities with user-friendly SDKs (Software Development Kits), allowing developers to create spatial applications.

      Pricing and Availability

The Play For Dream MR will be available in Singapore and Malaysia in October 2024, with details of pricing to be released at a later date. This will be followed by launches in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan, which are planned for 2025.
