After a long wait, indie developer Sad Cat Studios has announced that Replaced, their pixel-art cyberpunk game, will launch on March 12, 2026. Published by Thunderful Games, the 2.5D cinematic action platformer has already captured attention for its stunning visuals, fluid movement, and fast-paced combat. Fans can wishlist the game now on Steam and Xbox, ensuring they don’t miss the launch.

A Long and Challenging Journey

Originally planned for release four years ago, Replaced faced several delays. The team relocated from Belarus to Cyprus after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which forced them to rebuild their development workflow. Despite these setbacks, Sad Cat Studios preserved its ambitious vision. Consequently, this title marks the studio’s first full release, promising a cyberpunk world rich in narrative depth, art, and gameplay mechanics.
A Dystopian Alternate 1980s
Set in a nuclear-winter-ravaged alternate 1980s America, Replaced casts players as R.E.A.C.H., an AI trapped in a human body against its will. Phoenix-City, controlled by the sinister Phoenix Corporation, has become a haven for corruption, outlaws, and human trafficking.

As R.E.A.C.H., players uncover the Corporation’s hidden agenda while searching for the purpose behind their creation. Additionally, every corner of the city tells a story, and every secret carries consequences that shape the game world.
Gameplay and Combat
Replaced blends cinematic platforming with fluid, high-intensity combat. Players run, climb, and chain precise melee strikes with satisfying ranged attacks to defeat enemies while maintaining exploration flow.

Moreover, the game balances momentum and strategy, rewarding skillful timing and clever use of the environment. From crumbling districts to neon-lit alleys, every sequence feels dynamic and cinematic.
Themes of Humanity and Identity

As R.E.A.C.H. confronts unfamiliar human instincts and emotions, the game explores themes of identity, control, and morality. Players experience the story through morally complex characters and gradually uncover the influence of Phoenix Corporation. Consequently, every decision carries weight, immersing players in a tense cyberpunk thriller where choices truly matter.
Art Direction and Sound

The retro-futuristic world of Replaced comes alive with hand-crafted pixel art enhanced by modern visual effects. Neon-lit streets and industrial decay create a visually striking atmosphere, while a moody, synth-driven soundtrack intensifies cinematic platforming sequences and combat. Altogether, the combination of pixel art, animation, and music immerses players in a unique cyberpunk experience.
Mature Content and System Requirements
Replaced contains violent combat, strong language, and mature themes including alcohol, tobacco, and crude humor. Players should expect intense scenes, narrative-driven cutscenes, and music with mature references. The developers will announce system requirements closer to launch.
