Fans of the Patlabor series have a reason to get excited. Pre-ordering the Special Edition physical copy of PATLABOR the Case Files for the PS5 comes with a model kit of one of the series’ most recognizable mechs, the White Griffon. The Special Edition is only available through the GOOD SMILE COMPANY Online Shop, and pre-orders are already open. Since availability is limited, pre-orders could close before the game even launches, so interested fans are encouraged to reserve early.
The included model kit is a 1/60 scale figure, standing at about 5.1 inches tall. Every joint is movable, allowing it to be posed in different positions, and it also comes with the White Griffon’s iconic wings.
For those new to the series, Patlabor follows the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department as they deal with crimes involving giant robots called Labors. The name itself is a mix of “patrol” and “labor,” which refers to the Special Vehicles Section 2 Patrol Labor Unit, the division in charge of handling Labor-related incidents.
Several key figures from the original franchise are involved in the project. Yutaka Izubuchi returns as mechanical supervisor, Kazunori Itou as script supervisor, and Akemi Takada as character art supervisor — all of whom worked on the original series. PATLABOR the Case Files is the latest game set in that universe. It is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam in Summer 2026.
