Overwatch has officially announced a collaboration with NieR: Automata. The crossover brings the androids and machine lifeforms of Square Enix’s hit RPG into Blizzard’s team-based shooter. After a brief leak days earlier, Blizzard confirmed the event. It will start on March 10 as part of Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest.
The collaboration adds five new skins inspired by NieR: Automata. Lifeweaver becomes Adam, Vendetta takes on A2, Wuyang transforms into 9S, Kiriko suits up as 2B, and Mercy appears as Commander White. Each skin reimagines the heroes as androids or machines. The designs blend Overwatch’s colorful style with NieR’s darker tone.
Skins, Pricing, and Event Features
Players can purchase skins individually or in bundles. Individual skins may cost around 1,900 Overwatch Coins. Larger bundles could reach about 6,900 Coins. The event also includes challenges offering free rewards. Players can earn voice lines, cosmetics, and Battle Pass experience points inspired by NieR: Automata.
Blizzard accidentally revealed the collaboration early via a YouTube Short. The leak showed the key art and start date before it was removed. Fans reacted with excitement, making the official confirmation highly anticipated.
NieR’s Expanding Crossover Legacy

Since its 2017 release, NieR: Automata has grown from a cult hit to a global phenomenon. Developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix, the game is known for its existential story, striking visuals, and acclaimed soundtrack. It has sold over 10 million copies and recently teased a direct sequel.
NieR has appeared in many collaborations across the gaming industry. Director Yoko Taro has embraced these crossovers. The franchise has partnered with Call of Duty: Mobile, Final Fantasy 14, Rainbow Six Siege, Stellar Blade, and Astro Bot. Overwatch joins more than 40 previous collaborations.
Hero Favoritism Concerns

The collaboration highlights an ongoing issue with hero representation. Kiriko and Mercy were in the Hello Kitty and Friends event weeks ago. Wuyang has appeared in multiple crossovers since July 2025. Meanwhile, Ana, Baptiste, and Zarya have yet to receive collaboration skins.
Four of the five NieR skins are support heroes. Only one damage hero appears, and no tank characters are included. Players hope future events will feature a more balanced distribution.
With its stylish skins, in-game challenges, and a partnership with a renowned RPG, the Overwatch x NieR: Automata collaboration promises one of the franchise’s most exciting crossovers to date. Check their official X account too for future updates.
