The Malaysian Esports Federation (MESF) will soon roll out digital safety guidelines for online games such as Roblox to protect children from growing online risks including predators, cyberbullying, and gaming addiction.

The announcement came after a meeting between Malaysian Esports Federation (MESF), Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, and Roblox representatives. The session focused on the need for stronger protections for young players who spend long hours online without supervision.
Helping Parents and Guardians Understand Safe Play

MESF president Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said the group plans to issue safety guidelines that make it easier for parents to decide which games are suitable for their children. He explained that the guidelines will also help parents “better understand safe gaming limits” and know what content is appropriate for different age groups.

He added that MESF will work with other stakeholders to hold awareness programmes that teach families about online safety and healthy gaming behaviour. “We will be issuing suitable digital safety guidelines, including for Roblox, and rolling out awareness programmes to tackle these issues in a coordinated manner,” Naim said.
A Coordinated Effort for a Safer Gaming Space

The initiative reflects a growing collaboration between the Youth and Sports Ministry, MESF, and the gaming industry. Naim noted that while not every game falls under the esports category, MESF still plays a key role in addressing unhealthy behaviour among youth gamers. The goal, he said, is to make online play “a safer and more positive space for children to enjoy and learn responsibly.”
Setting a New Standard for Online Safety

This move follows global efforts to create safer online environments for young players. Malaysia’s upcoming guidelines could serve as a model for other gaming platforms operating in the region, encouraging stronger industry standards and more active parental involvement.
This initiative in the initial report shows how Malaysia is taking a proactive role in protecting children in the fast-growing world of online gaming.
