Ember Lab has officially unveiled Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the next chapter in the studio’s acclaimed action-adventure series. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026, marking a significant evolution of the world first introduced in Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
A More Experienced Spirit Guide

In Scars of Kosmora, players reunite with an older, more seasoned Kena. Now renowned as a Spirit Guide, she embarks on a journey to the mysterious island of Kosmora in search of answers about a lifelong affliction that has shaped her existence.
Kosmora is described as a land of distinct regions and cultures, layered with secrets tied to a tragic past. Ember Lab emphasizes a greater focus on deliberate world design, with tightly crafted environments and a stronger sense of progression compared to the studio’s debut title.
A Fractured Staff and a New Path

Early in the story, Kena confronts a powerful spirit that shatters her staff — a defining tool for any Spirit Guide. Beyond its practical use in guiding and communing with spirits, Kena’s staff has also been sustaining her life. Its destruction forces her to adapt.
To survive, Kena must embrace a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding unique to Kosmora. This ancient discipline incorporates Alchemy and elemental manipulation, expanding both the narrative and gameplay possibilities. The shift introduces new mechanics centered around harnessing elemental forces in combat and exploration.
Elemental Spirit Companions

A major addition to the sequel is a deeper emphasis on elemental spirit companions. These spirits accompany Kena throughout her journey, growing stronger as the bond between them deepens. Each spirit is tied to a specific element and connected to others scattered across the world.
While only one spirit has been revealed so far, Ember Lab has confirmed that additional companions — and their associated powers — will be unveiled at a later date.
Expanded Combat and Strategic Depth

Combat in Scars of Kosmora has been significantly expanded. Players can expect new elemental abilities, spirit-infused attacks, and more strategic encounters. The integration of alchemy and companion-based powers aims to introduce greater tactical depth, particularly during challenging boss fights and large-scale encounters.
Despite the mechanical enhancements, the core pillars of the series remain intact. Corrupted spirits will still need cleansing, and the emotional, character-driven storytelling that defined the first game continues to be a priority.
A Larger, More Ambitious World
Through its partnership with PlayStation Studios, Ember Lab has been able to scale the project beyond its predecessor. The studio describes Scars of Kosmora as a larger and more ambitious adventure, with refined gameplay systems and a more cohesive world structure.
While narrative specifics remain under wraps to avoid spoilers, the development team has emphasized its commitment to delivering a heartfelt and emotionally resonant experience for both returning players and newcomers.
