Here’s what’s going on with the Square Enix Twitter account…

Chances are, if you’ve been following Square Enix on Twitter, you might be wondering just what happened to the account as of late. The official Square Enix Twitter appears to be rebranded and taken over by an anime girl named Elise, making tweets such as:

Understandably, this all might seem bizarre for the maker of one of the most beloved JRPG franchises in history. It’s not uncommon to see other Twitter users expressing confusion or bewilderment over the antics of the corporate Twitter account.

If you were guessing that this is a marketing stunt, you’ll be right on the money. The Square Enix Twitter account is going pretty hard in marketing an upcoming horror RPG, Little Goody Two Shoes, developed by Portuguese studio AstralShift and published by Square Enix Collective, a London-based division of Square Enix that focuses on distributing and publishing indie titles.

Little Goody Two Shoes is set to release sometime in 2023. It’s currently unknown what platforms the game will be on.

According to a press release,

Set in the mysterious Kieferberg Village, Little Goody Two Shoes™ is a homage to the original PlayStation® and early PlayStation®2 (PS2) RPGs and is centered around Elise, an ambitious girl determined to become rich and escape her humble life. Players will step into Elise’s shoes and soon find themselves immersed in a 90’s inspired horror role-playing adventure game. Gameplay elements such as ‘Sustenance’, ‘Reputation & Suspicion’ and ‘Exploration & Narrative’ will guide players to complete their daily tasks by day and uncover the woodland’s darkest secrets by night. Players will also have the ability to set their own paths to navigate through the wicked woods, solve puzzles and build meaningful relationships in this nostalgic gaming experience.
