Development of Project Jewel, the ambitious RPG from Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata, has been temporarily suspended by its funding partner Quantum Solutions. The game, originally announced in February 2024 under the working title “Shallah,” is being developed by JP Games, the studio founded by Tabata after leaving Square Enix. The project was described as a cutting-edge RPG for adults inspired by the classic tales of “One Thousand and One Nights.”
JP Games completed a working demo of the game on July 10, 2024, but there have been no public updates since then. The project was being funded through a partnership between Quantum Solutions and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment.

According to Quantum Solutions, the suspension came after they reviewed the demo and determined that the game needed significant changes to better meet market demands. The company requested JP Games to revise certain aspects of the project, but claims they have not received “a clear response” to these requirements.
“We are still evaluating the assets received from JP Games and carefully considering their future usability and potential,” Quantum Solutions stated. However, they added that “no further development or investment is expected to progress at this stage.”
The halt represents a setback for Tabata’s first major project since directing Final Fantasy XV, which was released in 2016. JP Games has not yet publicly commented on the suspension.
