Capcom brought Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection to gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show, offering attendees a hands-on look at the upcoming compilation. The collection bundles the complete Mega Man Star Force series and is scheduled to release in 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. During the event, we played Mega Man Star Force Leo for approximately 20 minutes.
Dual-Screen Integration
The collection addresses one of the biggest challenges in porting DS games: the dual-screen layout. Capcom has combined both the top and bottom screens into a single display, with players able to switch between screen layouts using a button press. During our demo, the game handled these transitions effectively. In battles, the primary screen view stayed in focus, while menu navigation and skill selection highlighted the secondary screen area. The switching felt smooth, though it’s not fully automated in every situation.

Players can toggle between different screen modes, with layouts that can be customized based on the platform. Whether playing docked or in handheld mode on Switch, the setup felt natural and didn’t require constant adjustment.
The game supports modern controllers across all platforms. During our session with an Xbox-style controller, the button mapping worked well, with the game displaying the specific controller face button icons. The traditional controls replace the DS’s touchscreen inputs in a way that feels natural. Capcom has also updated the UI elements throughout the game. Menus are cleaner and sharper, using modern fonts that make navigation easier.

Visual Presentation and Impressions
The game looks good on larger screens. The 3D environments and models have been upscaled, with smoother edges and cleaner textures that translate well to HD. The 2D interface elements, including character portraits and UI icons, appear to have been improved for clarity and look refined.
The collection includes a high-resolution filter that smooths out sprites, though this may not appeal to everyone as it changes the look of the original visuals. This filter can be toggled on or off at any time, giving players the option to use the original pixel art style if they prefer.

Based on this early hands-on session, Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection appears to be a faithful remaster of the DS originals. The screen integration, updated UI, responsive controls, and visual options show Capcom’s approach to bringing the series to modern platforms while preserving the original experience.
