G-MODE has announced that it will release Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner: A’s TEST Server as part of its G-MODE Archives+ lineup on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop and PC via Steam in Japan. G-MODE Archives+ is a line focused on preserving and re-releasing older Japanese mobile games, updated and adapted for modern platforms. No release date for Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner: A’s TEST Server has been set yet.
The game is an RPG originally developed by ATLUS that first launched on Japanese feature phones on December 7, 2006. A Complete Edition came out shortly after on February 26, 2007, and that is the version being brought over for this re-release.

For those unfamiliar, the game is set in a massive sealed structure called the Tower of Karma. Players follow Serph, a protagonist who wakes up with no memories, as he meets a girl named Sera whose singing can calm the destructive power of Devils. Together, they push upward through the tower trying to figure out how they ended up there and what happened to Serph’s past.

The game uses a Press Turn System, a strategic battle mechanic familiar to fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series, where the number of actions your party gets in a turn shifts depending on how you attack. Parties consist of up to three characters including the protagonist. The Mantra system, which is how characters learn combat skills in this title, has been reworked from its original flowchart format into a fusion system where players combine Mantras together. Skills can then be equipped to characters freely.

The Tower of Karma also features partially procedurally generated floors, meaning parts of the dungeon can differ from player to player. For those who want a smoother experience, an optional 3x EXP boost is included as well.
As a series note, this title is a standalone entry in the Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga series and sits separate from the console games. It follows the Embryon tribe as they battle five rival tribes in a digital world called the Junkyard, though this specific game tells its own story within that setting.
