Bandai Namco Entertainment and acclaimed studio A24 have officially announced a live-action film adaptation of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed action RPG Elden Ring. The project will be helmed by Alex Garland, known for his work on Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare, who will serve as both writer and director.
The film adaptation brings together an impressive production team. Peter Rice will produce alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA Films. Notably, George R.R. Martin, who contributed to the game’s mythological foundation, will also serve as a producer along with Vince Gerardis.

The original game launched on February 25, 2022, and has achieved remarkable commercial success, shipping over 30 million units worldwide through the combined development expertise of FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment’s global marketing reach.
The film announcement coincides with expanding content for the Elden Ring franchise. A spinoff title, Elden Ring Nightreign, is scheduled for worldwide release on May 30, 2025. This cooperative action game reimagines familiar elements from the original while introducing new gameplay mechanics and characters facing fresh threats.

Additionally, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is planned for release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. This comprehensive version includes content from the Shadow of the Erdtree downloadable content released in June 2024, plus four new armor sets and appearance customization options for the spectral steed Torrent. No release date or casting information has been announced for the live-action film adaptation at this time.
