Final Fantasy XVI Collector’s Edition Unboxing- No Fratricide Required

Collector’s editions are an art form. They’re the peak of luxury, paying well above the price of just a game for some ornate object of worship to show your love for the game.

Funny enough, “Ornate” and “Object of worship” are two great ways to describe the collector’s edition for Final Fantasy XVI, which launches this week– it’s a lavish set for a lavish game, including everything from cloth maps, metal pins to a gorgeous centrepiece.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at this gorgeous potential addition to your collection, sent to us by our friends at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

All Good Things Come Packaged In Amano Art

So of course, we have to start with the very box the collector’s edition comes in. It’s shiny metallic sheen also bears a special mural illustrated by none other than Yoshitake Amano himself, featuring all the Eikons as well as some other faces that we’d even asked Game Director Hiroshi Takai about, albeit his response on the matter was fairly tight-lipped.

Opening up the box you get some fairly impressive loot. I’m especially a fan of these Eikon pins- showing each of the game’s Eikons rendered gorgeously in the style of the game’s UI, ready to be attached to your lapel for the snazziest night out of explaining to random girls at the bar who Bahamut is.

There’s also a great cloth map of Valisthea, perfect for decorating your study to make yourself feel like a fantasy explorer.

Eikonic Clashes

Alright, that’s enough beating around the bush. Now we get into the centerpiece of this whole set, a glorious statue of Ifrit and Phoenix duking it out.

The statue has this great metallic finish to it, with Phoenix’s feathers sporting the transparent gradient to look more like the Eikon of Fire instead of the the Eikon of Tropicana.

It’s sure to look great on any shelf, though the collector in me feels a primal fear any time I have to move it considering how big the wings are.

There’s also several more goodies included in the collector’s edition too- for one, there’s the Steel Book featuring Clive in his Semi-primed form, looking incredibly grim as the protagonist of a dark fantasy story should.

The Collector’s Edition also comes with two neat trinkets- a leather keychain featuring the Blessing of the Phoenix, as well as a crystal ornament with Shiva etched into it.

All in all, there’s nothing short of luxury in the Final Fantasy XVI Collector’s Edition. If you’re a big fan of one of this year’s biggest releases, you’re definitely going to want to check this one out. It’s got the right mix of something to show at every level, from the steelbox.
