In a recent interview with 4Gamer, prominent Final Fantasy producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida revealed that Square Enix is moving toward simultaneous multiplatform releases for new games. The statement came during a discussion about Fantasian Neo Dimension, which will launch simultaneously on Xbox Series X|S alongside other platforms.

“Square Enix titles will be released simultaneously on each platform more and more,” Yoshida stated, indicating a significant shift in the company’s release strategy. This announcement aligns with Square Enix’s recently declared plans to “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy” following lower-than-expected sales of PlayStation 5 exclusives, including Final Fantasy 16.

The move toward platform parity is already showing results, with Final Fantasy 14 making its Xbox debut. However, questions remain about how Square Enix will handle existing PlayStation-exclusive titles like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, as the company must first bring these games to other platforms before fully implementing its simultaneous release strategy.

Regarding Final Fantasy 16’s potential Xbox release, Yoshida offered hope to Microsoft console owners, stating, “It’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that.” However, he noted that Square Enix could not yet share specific timing details.

This strategic shift appears to be part of Square Enix’s broader initiative to create “an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles,” as stated in their financial release. The company plans to work with major platform holders including Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony to achieve this goal.
