Epic has announced that their digital storefront, the Epic Games Store, will be coming to iOS and Android devices at the end of the year.
The news came from the State of Unreal Livestream at GDC 2024, where Steve Allison, General Manager of Epic Game Store, announced the news alongside future plans for the store.
“For the past few years, Epic has tirelessly fought gatekeepers on mobile platforms to allow for distribution that is more fair, more open, and built for how we need to run our businesses today, and this battle is not over yet,” said Steve Allison.
“However, we have made enough progress and I am here today to make an announcement that we’re super pumped about, and that is we are hard at work on the Epic Games Store for mobile, targeting to launch on iOS and Android at the end of this year.”
Epic further explains in a blog post that the multi-platform store will offer the same fair terms as on PC, which means that the same revenue split of 88% for developers will remain even on the mobile platform.
As of writing, Epic has yet to share what games will be coming to the mobile version of the Epic Games Store, one could speculate that Fortnite, one of their most popular IPs, would probably be included in the list. Especially when many players have asked for an official global release of the game.
