Square Enix and Artdink Corporation have released a new gameplay video for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, highlighting one of the series’ most memorable moments. The footage follows the hero’s journey to defeat the Dragonlord and rescue Princess Gwaelin, a central story event from the original Dragon Quest I. While the scene may be familiar to long-time fans, the HD-2D remake adds a layer of depth and emotion through its modern presentation.
New Events and Expanded Storytelling

Producer Masaaki Hayasaka shared that the remake introduces a variety of new events and narrative elements designed to expand on the original game’s storyline. He explained that the footage shown is an abridged version of certain events and encouraged players to experience the full sequence in the final release. According to Hayasaka, these additions aim to give both returning fans and new players a richer understanding of the world and its characters.
Enhanced HD-2D Presentation

The game utilises Square Enix’s signature HD-2D art style, combining classic pixel visuals with advanced lighting and depth effects. The result is a world that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Characters move more fluidly, environments appear livelier, and battles transition seamlessly from exploration. This blend of retro design and modern technology captures the spirit of the original Dragon Quest titles while reintroducing them to a new audience with greater visual and emotional impact.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will launch on October 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
