Swedish game developer 10 Chambers has confirmed it is laying off a large number of employees as part of major changes to how the studio operates. The studio, known for its co-op shooter GTFO and the upcoming heist game Den of Wolves, said the job cuts are part of a “significant restructuring” aimed at improving the development of Den of Wolves, which does not yet have a release date.
“We can confirm that we’re taking a hard look at how we work and how the studio is set up, so Den of Wolves can become the game it deserves to be,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The layoffs will impact multiple roles across the studio, including several of the company’s co-founders. The spokesperson added that the changes are “difficult” and the company is “approaching them thoughtfully.” Out of respect for those affected, 10 Chambers said it will not comment on individual cases.
Despite the cuts, co-founders Ulf Anderson and Simon Viklund will continue leading the studio and remain committed to Den of Wolves. The company promised to share more updates through its official channels when available.
Earlier this week, co-founder Hjalmar Vikström announced his departure from 10 Chambers, though he did not reference the restructuring in his announcement. 10 Chambers was founded in 2015 by former developers from the Payday series. The studio’s first game, GTFO, found success with players. In 2020, Chinese gaming company Tencent purchased a major stake in the studio.
Den of Wolves, the studio’s next project and a return to the heist genre, has been shown at The Game Awards for two years in a row, including a drone show presentation over Los Angeles. Last year, 10 Chambers announced plans for a video documentary series called “Do the Game” that would follow the game’s development process.
