The Mugen Train movie has managed to outsell Spirited Away for the Japan box office records for highest grossing film, despite releasing during the COVID-19 pandemic where most would be staying home. That’s a whopping 32.47 billion yen, to Spirited Away‘s 321.68 billion yen, a record the Ghibli-produced movie had held since 2001. Even more impressively, Mugen Train managed to hit the 30 billion yen mark in merely 59 days, where Spirited Away took 253 days. Congratulations to the series for the incredible achievement!
The series is also getting game adaptations, one of which has since been delayed while the other remains mostly quiet. You can check out our coverage on the mobile game here, and the console game here.
