Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the original Cyberpunk tabletop RPG that inspired Cyberpunk 2077, has expressed his interest in seeing Keanu Reeves return as Johnny Silverhand in the upcoming sequel. The legendary Hollywood actor recently mentioned that he’d “love” to reprise his role in CD Projekt Red’s next Cyberpunk title, currently known as Cyberpunk 2. In response, Pondsmith humorously told Reeves to “call him,” teasing that he has “ways” to bring the iconic rocker back from the dead.

Keanu Reeves Wants to Revisit Johnny Silverhand

Reeves’ portrayal of Johnny Silverhand remains one of Cyberpunk 2077’s most defining elements, earning widespread praise for his rebellious charisma and layered performance. However, given that most of the game’s endings—and particularly the Phantom Liberty expansion’s so-called “true” ending—result in Johnny’s permanent death, his return would require some creative storytelling.
Still, Reeves’ enthusiasm for revisiting the character suggests that both he and the creators behind Cyberpunk share a lasting fondness for Silverhand’s legacy. Pondsmith’s tongue-in-cheek response during a recent REDStream broadcast has only fueled speculation that the character might somehow make a comeback, whether through flashbacks, digital echoes, or even new lore involving the Relic technology that defined the first game.
Cyberpunk 2 Is Officially in Development

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is in active development under the codename Project Orion. The game reportedly entered pre-production earlier this year, with around 116 developers currently involved, while the studio’s focus remains split with the ongoing development of The Witcher 4.
While details about Cyberpunk 2 remain scarce, job listings have hinted that the sequel could finally introduce online multiplayer—something the studio had initially planned for the original Cyberpunk 2077 before scrapping it due to technical setbacks and the game’s rocky launch.
Looking to the Future of Night City

Although fans may have to wait several years before Cyberpunk 2 takes shape, Pondsmith’s playful remarks and Reeves’ interest show that Johnny Silverhand’s influence continues to resonate. Whether or not CD Projekt Red finds a believable way to reintroduce the character, the combination of Pondsmith’s storytelling creativity and Reeves’ dedication could make the sequel even more ambitious than its predecessor.
For now, the sequel stands as one of the most anticipated RPGs in development, and fans can only speculate whether the ghost of Johnny Silverhand will once again haunt the neon streets of Night City.
