Sandfall Interactive has revealed that an upcoming update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will include a nerf to Maelle’s skill, Stendhal.
While the development team actively encourages players to find creative ways to break the game, they noted that this particular ability made things too easy.
Based on the full developer message, they initially had no plans to adjust game balance so early after release, aiming instead to focus solely on bug fixes, unless something clearly demanded attention.
Stendhal turned out to be that exception. Originally underpowered during most of development, Stendhal received a significant damage boost in the final pre-release balance pass. However, the adjustment overshot the mark, causing the skill to overshadow most other options.

Players have one final day to take advantage of the skill in its current form and push for high scores. The nerf will be included in the game’s first full hotfix, set to launch on Steam, with other platforms to follow soon after.
Following the update, Stendhal will still be a strong single-hit ability with high synergy potential, but rebalanced to be more in line with the rest of the game’s mechanics.
