The category saw a major shift as Travel Town displaced long-time leader Merge Mansion from the top position. Meanwhile, Match 3D games nearly doubled their revenue with 97% growth, led by Match Factory! which captured 42% of the category’s revenue. This growth reflected a broader trend of simple games adding more complex features.
Sort Puzzle games emerged as the year’s fastest-growing category, achieving 5.6 times more revenue than the previous year. Hexa Sort led the category with $28.5M in revenue, while traditional water-sort puzzles completely disappeared from the top 10. In the casino-style games category, Monopoly GO! maintained its dominance with 55% of category revenue, while Playtika strengthened its position through strategic studio acquisitions.

The report highlights a clear trend across all categories: successful games are focusing more on player retention and regular events (LiveOps). Despite overall market growth, new games faced significant challenges breaking into top rankings. Looking ahead to 2025, developers are advised to prioritize long-term player engagement strategies, even for simpler game types.
