Gearbox Explains the Delay

The announcement came through Gearbox’s official social media channels. The studio emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly. According to its statement, the team wants to deliver the best possible experience for Switch 2 players. Extra time will allow the developers to refine the game further and align the release with the addition of cross-save support. Gearbox highlighted that cross-save functionality remains an important feature, and the delay gives the team a chance to integrate it properly.
Refunds for Pre-Orders

As part of Nintendo’s policy, all digital pre-orders of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 will be canceled. Players who placed pre-orders can either request a refund immediately or wait until September 26, when the process will occur automatically. For questions about eShop purchases, Gearbox directed players to Nintendo’s customer support portal. Physical pre-orders remain subject to the policies of individual retailers.
Launch on Other Platforms

While Switch 2 players must wait, Borderlands 4 is already available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Gearbox continues to support these platforms with updates and patches. The developer has confirmed that further improvements, including optimizations, are in progress. The studio also noted that a patch designed for the PS5 Pro is currently being prepared.
Looking Ahead

Although the Switch 2 release faces a delay, Gearbox reaffirmed its commitment to fans. The studio expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and support during this adjustment. With more development time, the company aims to ensure the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 launches in the best possible state. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
