Would you kindly…get excited because Netflix is partnering with 2K and Take-Two Interactive to produce a film adaptation of the renowned video game franchise BIOSHOCK!
The Hollywood Reporter says the deal has been in the works for at least a year, and presently has no writer or filmmaker on board. An earlier attempt at a Bioshock film adaptation was apparently killed by the franchises’ creative director for Bioshock and Infinite, Ken Levine, but it seems to be back on the table with this Netflix reveal. Whether or not Levine will be a part of this latest run remains to be seen.
It does beg the question if one film is enough to encompass the game. Games being an interactive medium offer quite distinct experiences when compared to screen adaptations, after all. A number of comments are bringing up Gore Verbinski, whose initial attempt was rebuffed by Levine, to helm the project. In any case, we can only wait to see if more substantial reveals come forth, as the release will likely not be out for quite some time yet.
We’re still waiting on a supposed new game in the franchise too…
