The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios is defending the choice of director for the upcoming Helldivers movie, asking fans to trust in his vision despite concerns about his familiarity with the game.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Justin Lin will direct the live-action Helldivers film. Lin is known for directing multiple Fast and Furious movies (parts 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9) and Star Trek Beyond. Some fans expressed concerns about whether Lin has played Helldivers before taking on the project. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani addressed these worries directly in the game’s official Discord server.

When one Discord member jokingly offered to direct the film themselves because they were a fan, Jorjani responded simply: “Let Justin Lin work his magic.” Another fan asked Jorjani to make sure the director plays the game at least once or watches some gameplay. The CEO replied: “I trust Justin. He did a great job on the Star Trek movie.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin plans to focus on finding the humanity in the characters while building out the world and mythology of Helldivers. He also intends to include timely themes in the story. The movie will be produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, along with Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Gary Dauberman wrote the script and is known for writing It, It: Chapter Two, the Annabelle series, and this year’s Until Dawn movie adaptation.
Helldivers 2 was Sony’s biggest success of 2024, becoming PlayStation’s fastest-selling game launch ever. The game sold 12 million copies across PC and PS5 in its first 12 weeks and reached 15 million sales by November 2024.
