Playstation has announced a new feature for PS5 users called Game Trials, letting fans try out a game ahead of purchasing it, with progress carrying over into the main title.

The announcement was seemingly made in a low-key manner, with some users receiving emails about the new feature.

It looks like game studios will have to manually opt in to make their games available for the Game Trials feature- right now the only two titles available for it are Death Stranding Director’s Cut as well as Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

There’s a huge catch to the feature though- for one, it looks like Game Trials are only available for PS5 users. Two, each trial is time-limited, with players getting only 6 hours on Death Stranding while Sackboy is five hours.

The real kicker is in the fine print though: This isn’t 6 hours of playtime, but rather 6 hours since triggering the game’s download. Considering the size of titles like Death Stranding, you’re probably going to be clocking way less playtime than you’d like, made only worse by just how cutscene-heavy Kojima’s open world adventure is.

Finally, it looks like which games will be available for Trials will also be time-limited. According to PushSquare, Death Stranding and Sackboy will no longer be available to try after October 28th.
