PLAY Interactive has set up the PLAY Game Development Co-Investment Fund, a fund that aims to help Malaysian game developers get their games financial support.
According to PLAY Interactive, the company has put aside a total of RM 1 million to help build up the local games industry, with applicants being eligible to receive up to RM 100,000 to see their games realized within 2 years of receiving the grant.
Potential applicants can sign up by sending an email to [email protected], with their company name and “PDCGF Application” in the title of the email.
Naturally, the fund comes with a catch. Aside from publishing the game within 2 years of accepting the money, PLAY Interactive looks to hold worldwide publishing rights to your title. It’s particularly good for indie developers who don’t want to worry about finding a publisher, since PLAY Interactive will handle that side of the development process while applicants can focus on making their games.
Applying for the PLAY Game Development Co-Investment Fund
Here is the full list of Eligibility Critera for the PLAY Game Development Co-Investment Fund, from PLAY Interactive:
- The applicant is a company incorporated in Malaysia.
- More than Fifty One Per Cent (51%) of the legal and beneficial ownership of the applicant is vested in Malaysian(s).
- The applicant is not the subject of a winding up order and has no going concern and if the applicant has going concern issue (as reported in the latest audited account), the applicant has to obtain undertaking letter and/written statement by the company’s shareholder and/or director to financially undertake and liability to the company.
- Where the applicant has received grant / funds from any other agencies of parties for the same project applied here for PLAY Game Fund:
(a) All such grants / funds have been fully utilised; and
(b) All projects thereunder have been completed i.e. all milestones have been delivered to the satisfaction of the provider of such funding as duly acknowledged and certified by the provider of such grants / funds
(c) The applicant must not have any form of publishing deal tied up with the provider of such grants / funds - Where the applicant has received grant from any other agencies or parties for past project(s), the applicant shall provide success story and/or proven revenue generated from the project which was funded
According to PLAY Interactive’s website, they’re not picky about the type of games you may choose to submit for the grant. PC, Console and mobile games are all welcome, and the company even mentions that they’re willing to accept already released titles looking to be ported over.
The website also has a list of required application materials, including templates for things such as your Letter of Undertaking and Pitching Deck.
