Challenges await you in Genshin Impact in the form of the mini event, Contending Tides! At Adventure Rank 20 and above, you can join in the melee to earn yourself some tidy rewards.

STARTING THE EVENT

You’ll automatically obtain the Mountainous Summons quest. Simply go through the dialogue and the challenges will unlock. You can also directly teleport to the arena once this quest is complete.

Challenges will unlock over time, with 7 challenges in total. Rewards include:

• 60 Primogems per challenge
• Blue Talent Books
• Mystic Enhancement Ore
• Mora
• Hero’s Wit

If you can clear the Extreme difficulty, you can claim all the other rewards for the lower difficulties.

WELCOME TO EASY MODE

• Normal (Rewards: 60 Primogems)
  • Defeat 15 opponents in 300 seconds
  • Defeat 2 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No more than 2 character deaths during the challenge
• Hard (Rewards: 2x Guide to Freedom, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 15 opponents in 180 seconds
  • Defeat 3 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No more than 1 character death during the challenge
• Extreme (Rewards: 3x Hero’s Wit, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 20 opponents in 180 seconds
  • Defeat 4 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No deaths during the challenge

You will face Pyro + Electro Hilichurl archers, as well as those torch bearing Hilichurls, among regular Hilichurls and the Blazing Axe Mitachurls. The aura in the center is the gimmick for this challenge:

• Greatly increased attack in aura
• Attacking enemies with full stamina within aura unleashes shockwave

If you have enough DPS, the aura is not necessary. Crowd control is recommended – Venti and Sucrose bunching up units is really good on their Bursts – and shields will also help to avoid some damage from Overload.

  • Defeat 30 opponents in 180 seconds
  • Time between kills cannot exceed 20s
  • No deaths during the challenge

Electro is the name of this game, as Electro-Charged reactions deal more damage, as well as unleashing a shockwave. You’ll be fighting a bunch of slime, with the bigger ones spawning in bubbles. Don’t walk into them by accident, or heal up if you do!

ART OF THE CANNONBALL

• Normal (Rewards: 60 Primogems)
  • Defeat 20 opponents in 240 seconds
  • Defeat 2 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No more than 2 character deaths during the challenge
• Hard (Rewards: 2x Guide to Ballad, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 20 opponents in 210 seconds
  • Defeat 3 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No more than 1 character death during the challenge
• Extreme (Rewards: 3x Hero’s Wit, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 25 opponents in 190 seconds
  • Defeat 3 Blazing Mitachurl
  • No deaths during the challenge

If you have Xiao, congratulations, this stage is made for you. Otherwise, you can take flight with the anemograna around the arena.

BATTLE OF AN EPOCH

• Normal (Rewards: 60 Primogems)
  • Defeat 2 opponents in 300 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No more than 2 character deaths during the challenge
• Hard (Rewards: 2x Guide to Prosperity, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 3 opponents in 240 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No more than 1 character death during the challenge
• Extreme (Rewards: 3x Hero’s Wit, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 5 opponents in 150 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No deaths during the challenge

The gimmick for this challenge releases shockwaves when hitting Frozen opponents. Your only opponents will be Ruin Guards, so as long as you can freeze them in place, this shouldn’t be too hard.

TO THE BITTER END

• Normal (Rewards: 60 Primogems)
  • Defeat 1 opponent in 300 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No more than 2 character deaths during the challenge
• Hard (Rewards: 2x Guide to Diligence, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 1 opponent in 240 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No more than 1 character death during the challenge
• Extreme (Rewards: 3x Hero’s Wit, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 1 opponent in 110 seconds
  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No deaths during the challenge

The lower your HP, the more damage you’ll deal! Hu Tao and Xiao players will be quite familiar with this playstyle.

SHOCK ME, I DARE YOU!

• Normal (Rewards: 60 Primogems)
  • Defeat 25 opponents in 300 seconds
  • No more than 2 character deaths during the challenge
• Hard (Rewards: 2x Guide to Gold, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 30 opponents in 240 seconds
  • No more than 1 character death during the challenge
• Extreme (Rewards: 3x Hero’s Wit, 30,000x Mora)
  • Defeat 30 opponents in 150 seconds
  • No deaths during the challenge

You’ll be facing mostly regular Hilichurl, with a Geo Samachurl and a Blazing Axe Mitachurl towards the end. This challenge wants you to spam charge attacks to get the buff, but if you can bunch up enemies and eliminate them at once with powerful AOE attacks, that works just as well.

  • Do not leave the arena during the challenge
  • No deaths during the challenge

You’re meant to stay within an aura which you can somewhat see (the light blue ring) to “absorb” its power for increased ATK and shockwaves on normal or charged attacks. Honestly can’t tell the difference.
