The yet-incoming RPG Black Myth Wukong has reared its head yet again, bringing with it a new trailer showing off more gameplay just in time for the Year of the Ox.
The trailer was released in celebration of the Year of the Ox, and the developers were quick to say that a lot of the content doesn’t represent the game’s plot. Considering how the first footage shown last year was a vertical slice, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that all the sequences were created just for trailer purposes, and don’t actually represent the game.
Still, to take it as at least an indication of where the game plans to go, we get a better look at what the less setpiece moments of the game are meant to look like, as Wukong battles ordinary non-boss enemies.
Still, the meat of the trailer is just an analogy for the upcoming Chinese New Year, which sees the calendar shift from the year of the Rat to the Year of the Ox. Similarly, the trailer shows Wukong fighting a rat monster, only for it to be replaced by a bull-headed beast.
For fans hoping for a clearer explanation on what the game is, there’s not much here. The game is probably still very early in development, and all the highly polished sequences we’ve seen so far are more like vertical slices meant to generate interest.
At face value, the game is an action-RPG with elements from games like Sekiro, having a more aggressive playstyle. Being based of the mythological figure Sun Wukong, the developers had previously said they wanted to emulate the character’s many powers into the game.
