New Digimon Project “VB” Teased

It’s a great year to be a Digimon fan. Today Bandai teased a big announcement for the Virtual Pet franchise, with more news set to come on 7th December 2020.

They did this via a new website, with a Digi-Egg on the front. Clicking it will not cause it to hatch, although the shell will crack as if it was about to.

The website also gives the aforementioned date for the big announcement, giving no further info.

According to the Facebook page, the project is codenamed “VB”. Given Digimon’s love of weird names “VB” could mean anything, so it’s impossible to speculate what the news could be about.

Given the teaser site uses the toy.bandai URL, it’s hard to not assume this might be Digimon going back to its roots, possibly releasing another virtual pet design. Considering how they’ve been doing re-releases of the classic Digimon Virtual Pets, it’s not too far of a stretch to think we’d be getting something similar.

The Digimon franchise has done pretty well for itself, depsite its premise being very Y2K. The original anime, Adventure 01 has gotten multiple sendoffs including a series of “all grown up” movies, as well as a retelling of 01 complete with new artistic liberties.
