The Acer Predator Triton 300 PT315-51 is still a decent machine with its premium aluminium design and great display, though it lacks in the GPU department, with only a GTX 1650 that doesn’t quite match its looks. With its refresh in the PT315-52, it’s now packing a better GPU that can be paired with the Intel Core i7-10750H. There’s tweaks to its design, performance and display, but the rest remains. So, what’s new?

A THINNER PROFILE

The PT315-52 Predator Triton 300 is almost the same as its predecessor, instead ditching the Predator words on the back logo and redesigning the rear vents. As with the Helios 300, the removal of the name is due to the brand already being recognizable, so they’re able to streamline the design. The size has also been shrunk to 19.9mm for a really compact machine. The keyboard has not changed at all, retaining its durability for work and play and four RGB light zones.

AN UPGRADED DISPLAY

One big improvement for the latest iteration of the Predator Triton 300 is in the display, jumping from 144 Hz to 240 Hz, certainly a welcome upgrade for gamers as a whole. With a 91% sRGB coverage and comfortable viewing angle, the 1920 x 1080 resolution screen is capable of a 300+ nits maximum brightness and good contrast.

HARDWARE NOT LAGGING BEHIND

You’ll have a better choice of CPU and GPU with the PT315-52, with an Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q design, 16GB RAM and storage up to [ fill in ], it’s now far better equipped for heavy gaming sessions and multitasking. The high refresh rate certainly positions it as a better gaming machine when matched with this hardware, with Shadow of the Tomb Raider being tested below:

The internal benchmarking for the game reports up to 55 frames per second at high settings, and playing it for ourselves demonstrates the good and consistent frame rate. With V-Sync on, there’s no screen-tearing to be seen either. To further boost your gaming experience, the Triton 300 comes with PredatorSense for you to adjust the fan speeds and overclock the GPU. We have to warn you that the fans do get quite noisy, however.

While these specs are a step up, don’t start going too crazy with it, but it will be able to give most machines a run for their money.

CONNECTIVITY AND BATTERY

The battery capacity is still on the low side, but it’s better than the 2019 Predator Triton 300, giving improved performance away from the charger. It’s still prudent to keep in mind that it’s still a gaming laptop, and isn’t suited for long hours apart from the charger.

The addition of Wi-Fi 6 will give the machine the best possible connection without needing a wired connection, with the system analyzing and identifying the most important processes to give it more bandwidth. As game updates get larger, a good Wi-Fi connection will be extremely useful. In regards to connectivity, you’ll find 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, HDMI port, dual audio ports and RJ-45 port.

IN CLOSING

What else is there to say about the Triton 300? It’s got upgraded specs, in a cooler looking aluminium chassis. The keyboard can light it up with 4-zone RGB lights and is comfortable to use, with a large touchpad to bot. The machine is about on par with others carrying the i7-10750H/ RTX 2070 combo. It’s yet another gaming laptop that is value for money, with pretty powerful hardware at a more modest price point.
