Welcome to the Marvel Super War Marksman Classroom. If you haven’t read it already, you should first check out the starter guide that I wrote previously.
Marvel Super War: Marksman Classroom
Every couple of days, I will be going more in-depth into each role and how to play them more effectively. For today’s class, we’ll be talking about the Marksman role. Currently, the three best Marksmen are Rocket Racoon, Starlord and Angel. As usual, I’ll be writing in detail how to play them. Rocket Racoon
Out of the three marksmen I’ve listed, Rocket Racoon’s kit is the simplest and the most straightforward. His Skill 1 (Machine Gun Volley) is what pushes him on top compared to all the other Marksmen. It allows you to hit up to 3 targets if they’re standing close enough. This is massive because you could be dealing up to triple the amounts of damage if the enemies bunch up. You should max your Skill 1 first. Your Skill 2 (Racoon Sprint) is a movement speed buff. Meanwhile, your Ult lets you place mines that explode for damage and slow any units hit.
Tip 1: Utilizing your Passive
Last hitting as a Marksman is already really important as it is. It’s even more so for Rocket Racoon because last hits give him Spare Parts. Every 15 Spare Parts gives you a point that you can use to upgrade your skills. For your first point, you should always upgrade your passive first to increase your attack range. After that, upgrade your Skill 1 for more damage. For the last two points, you can either upgrade your Ult for a stronger slow on your mines or your Skill 2 for the slow immunity. If the enemy doesn’t have any good slows, you can always upgrade your Skill 2 last.
Tip 2: Protect Yourself with Ult
Your Ult, Explosive Mines, are very important for covering flank routes. Always use them to cover routes where assassins can use to reach you. You can also throw some behind you or near you before a fight starts so that you can run towards them for safety.
Item Build
We get Silent Hunter and Hunting Greaves first, so that we can power farm early on with Skill 1. After that, we help our sustain with Dual Blade. The last three items are to suit our needs, if there is little to no CC on the enemy team, you can replace Titan’s Glory with Gungnir for more Armor Penetration or a Valkyrior Bow for more damage and Lifesteal.
Starlord
Starlord is unique out of all the Marksmen because he does not play like a traditional auto-attacking machine. Instead, he’s more like a caster that is capable of relying on auto-attacks in an emergency. Your Skill 1 (Let’s Rock) will rapid-fire a stream of attacks at your nearby target. Skill 2 (Rocket Boots) gives you a huge movement speed boost. Your Ult calls an AoE airstrike that slowly advances forward, constantly dealing damage.
Tip 1: Understand your Skill 1 (Let’s Rock)
This is your bread and butter and what you’ll be dealing 90% of your damage with so you NEED to understand everything it does. There are some small details that you might not know if you don’t play a lot of Starlord. Thankfully, I’m playing it so that you don’t have to. Firstly, if your target leaves your range, the attack stops or redirects to another enemy unit within range. Secondly, these attacks DO NOT count as basic attacks. They cannot lifesteal, crit or apply on hit effects. However, I did some testing and Valkyrior Bow does work with Let’s Rock. That’s a bit of spaghetti coding going on there, but don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Tip 2: Get in, get close, get out
For anyone new to Starlard, you might not be informed about his playstyle yet. If you read the first tip earlier, you’ll quickly see that you have to be up close and personal to fully utilize your Skill 1. Thankfully, we have the best movement speed skill in the game with Skill 2 (Rocket Boots). Use the movement speed to get in, blast your target with your Skill 1, then get out before your speed buff runs out. While your Skill 1 is firing off, you can already start looking for escape routes and plan where you want to go.
Item Build
First, we want boots so that we can have lower cooldowns and lots of mobility. Next Stormbreaker fits Starlord’s hit and run style perfectly. After that we want Valkyrior Bow as the passive procs on every hit on Let’s Rock! The last three items are flexible but my picks are Double Daggers and Gungnir for armor pen and Immortal Glaive for a nice defensive boost.
Angel
Out of three Marksmen here, Angel is the riskiest to play. He deals tons of damage and has a very aggressive toolkit but his auto attack range is a little lacking. Your passive (Fletchette) makes every 5th basic attack shoot 3 feathers instead of 1. Your Skill 1 (Judgement) is an attack speed buff. It also has a passive (Original Sin) that let’s you deal extra damage on every 5th attack on a target. Skill 2 (Sacred Feathers) scatters feathers at nearby enemies. The feathers are equally distributed to the enemies and applies one stack of Original Sin. Skill 3 (Holy Vestiges) is a simple dash. Your Ult (Angel’s Coming) is a long distance blink strike, with a shield and a movement speed buff. Every time you level your Ult you also get Metamorphosis, which can upgrade one of your skills (kinda like Rocket Racoon).
Tip 1: Metamorphosis path
Every game you play will be different, and that’s why you need to know how to think for yourself on what to Metamorph first during a game. You will almost always want to morph your Skill 2 first. It will increase the amount of feathers you fire. Hitting a single target with 3 or more feathers will also give 2 Stacks of Original Sin instead of one. Next, you can freely choose between Skill 1 or 3. Skill 1 if you just want more damage. Pick Skill 3 if you need to escape or chase better, just make sure you get to proc your Original Sin, then your Skill 3 will refresh.
Tip 2: Go for the backline
During the late game, you fulfill an Assassin-like role. Because of the huge range of your Ult, you can easily go for the backline and take out the enemy Marksman first. However, you must pick your fights carefully. Angel is an “all-in” character that wants to get up close and personal. If you Ult poorly, you might be sending yourself to your own death. Therefore, make sure the coast is clear before flying in. Check the map if all enemies are accounted for (don’t wanna be surprised when the enemy Assassin comes out to back up the Marksman), make sure your Ult is targeting the right person (sometimes the Ult targets someone dumb) and be sure you’re ready to commit to a fight when you Ult.
Item Build
Valyrior Bow is a great starting item as it has lifesteal and can get you through the early stages. The next two items are Hunting Greaves and Silent Hunter as attack speed items are the best for Angel. Next, we get a Dual Blade for the lifesteal and raw attack. After that, if you need more defense, you can swap the Twilight Blade for Immortal Glaive or Heimdall’s Sword. If the enemy has no CC, you could swap the Titan’s Glory for Double Daggers or Sky Shadows.
Extra Class: Titan’s Glory
+100 Physical Attack
+500 HP
+5% Cooldown Reduction
Active – Titan’s Glory: Dispels control effects on you and makes you immune to control effects for the next 2 seconds (90 second cooldown)
As of version 3.5, these are the stats of Titan’s Glory. However, the active is probably not going to change much, which is the reason this item is going to be your new best friend.
Titan’s Glory dispels then makes you immune to all CC for 2 seconds. This is the item to get when you can’t cope with the enemy CC. This item will completely shutdown enemy tanks like Hulk, Mr Fantastic and Thing whose job is to get on top of you and let their team finish you off. I have done some extensive testing and you can dispel almost all forms of CC, including stuns, slows and knockups. When you dispel a knockup, you instantly zip back to the ground (which looks kinda funny) after which you can walk away or continue attacking. However, there is one exception which is Mantis Ult. It cannot be dispelled nor can you be immune to it, so be careful not to waste the Titan’s Glory Active when she stuns you with her Force Control.
