NetEase invests in Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive

NetEase’s online games branch, NetEase Games, have invested in Behaviour Interactive, developer of Dead by Daylight.

Rémi Racine will continue to be president and executive producer of the privately-owned Montreal-based Behaviour. Behaviour’s board will have a NetEase nominated director. Previously, China’s Gaea Interactive had also invested in Behaviour.

Ethan Wang, NetEase’s vice president, talked about “further developing a relationship with Behaviour, as a pioneer of online games and asymmetrical battle arena leader. We will be leveraging Behaviour’s passion and expertise to enhance R&D developments for more exciting games and products to players globally.”

NetEase Games has had successful game launches in different regions recently. It has invested in France’s Quantic Games and even Dino Patti’s Jumpship and Improbable. Not only does NetEase publish Blizzard’s World of Warcraft in China, it has partnerships with Marvel and the Pokemon Company.

“NetEase’s investment validates our reputation for excellence and efficiency built over 27 years of online games,” Racine’s statement goes. “Opportunities for accelerating growth are constantly looked for, for new and innovative game R&D and to recruit exceptional talent. NetEase’s position as an industry leader in online games brings reputable R&D, operational capability and experience for future long-term, sustainable growth.”

Behaviour had mostly been an outsourcing company with contributions to over 250 games since 1992. Dead by Daylight is its homegrown success, with over 12 million players. More than 550 employees are at Behaviour, selling 70 million games on every platform.

Pre-registrations are open for Dead by Daylight’s mobile release.
