Developer Cyan Worlds has confirmed that full modern remakes of Myst and Riven will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 on May 19. Both titles will support flatscreen and VR gameplay, giving players multiple ways to experience the reimagined puzzle classics.
Originally released in the 1990s on PC and the original PlayStation, both games became landmark titles in adventure gaming history, with Myst famously dominating PC sales charts for years and helping define the puzzle exploration genre.
Dual Gameplay Modes on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2

Both Myst and Riven will support full flatscreen (2D) gameplay as well as immersive PlayStation VR2 modes on PlayStation 5. Cyan Worlds has focused heavily on ensuring both playstyles feel equally polished, building on experience gained from previous VR projects.
The intention is to let players freely choose between traditional gameplay on a screen or full VR immersion without compromising visual quality, performance, or interaction design.
Enhanced Visuals and Performance Options

On PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, both remakes include advanced rendering options such as ray-traced reflections in flatscreen mode. When enabled, the games run at 30 frames per second for visual stability, while disabling ray tracing allows performance to increase up to 60 frames per second using screen-space reflections instead.
Players can toggle Performance Mode in the settings to prioritise either visual fidelity or smoother gameplay, with dynamic adjustments to resolution depending on the selected mode.
PlayStation 5 Pro Enhancements and Efficiency Features

The PlayStation 5 Pro versions of Myst and Riven feature improved graphical fidelity, including higher-quality textures, better draw distances, enhanced foliage, and upgraded post-processing effects. VR mode also benefits from higher base render resolution on PlayStation 5 Pro.
Both titles additionally support PlayStation 5 Power Saver Mode, which reduces energy consumption by lowering resolution and locking performance to 30 frames per second.
Pricing and Release Details

Both Myst and Riven will be available for wishlist starting May 5, with release scheduled for May 19. Each game will be priced at USD 34.99 (approximately MYR 165) at launch.
A Modern Return to Classic Puzzle Adventures
With these remakes, Cyan Worlds aims to bring two of gaming’s most influential puzzle experiences into the modern era while preserving their atmospheric storytelling and exploration-driven design. Whether played in flatscreen or PlayStation VR2, both Myst and Riven are designed to deliver a faithful yet modernised experience for new and returning players on PlayStation 5.
