Publisher NIS America has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, originally developed by Nihon Falcom, are heading to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 this fall. Both titles will be available as individual digital releases, while a bundled physical collection will also be offered for players who want the complete Crossbell arc in one package.
This release marks another opportunity for players to experience one of the most beloved story arcs in the long-running Trails series, now enhanced for modern hardware with notable technical upgrades.
Enhanced Performance and New Features

Both The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure will feature significant performance improvements on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Players can expect support for up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, offering a smoother and more visually refined experience compared to previous versions.
Interestingly, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will also include mouse input support, expanding control options for players who prefer a more precise input method. Additionally, both titles allow players to switch between original and upscaled textures, giving flexibility between nostalgia and visual clarity.
Return to Crossbell in Trails from Zero
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero introduces players to the bustling city-state of Crossbell, a key location caught between the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard. The story follows Lloyd Bannings, who returns home to join the Crossbell Police Department, only to be assigned to the unconventional Special Support Section.
This entry focuses heavily on world-building and character dynamics, with Lloyd teaming up with Elie MacDowell, Randy Orlando, and Tio Plato. Together, they handle a range of requests while uncovering deeper conspiracies within the city. With features like High-Speed Mode and enhanced visuals, the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions aim to make exploration and combat more fluid than ever.
The Story Continues in Trails to Azure
Picking up shortly after the events of its predecessor, The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure serves as the dramatic conclusion to the Crossbell storyline. While temporary peace has settled over the region, new threats quickly emerge as political tensions escalate and rival factions begin to move behind the scenes.
This sequel builds upon the original with expanded combat mechanics such as Burst, Back Attack, and even vehicle-based elements. Players can also import save data from The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero to unlock additional dialogue and story variations, adding further depth to the narrative experience.
A Definitive Way to Experience the Crossbell Arc

With enhanced performance, additional features, and the convenience of modern platforms, the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure are shaping up to be the definitive way to experience the Crossbell arc.
Whether you are revisiting Crossbell or stepping into the Trails universe for the first time, this release offers a comprehensive and polished JRPG experience that continues to define the series’ reputation for deep storytelling and interconnected world-building.
